EEPSEA will be presenting two sessions as described below at the Planet Under Pressure (PUP) Conference to be held in London in March 2012 (http://www.planetunderpressure2012.net). One will be done in collaboration with TEEB.
"Recognizing, Demonstrating and Capturing Ecosystem Service Values: Lessons from TEEB and EEPSEA"
EEPSEA and TEEB will jointly present this session on Day 2 of the conference under the Key Event theme ‘Governing Across Scales’. The session will be co-convened by Drs. V. Adamowicz, University of Alberta, Canada; H. Francisco, EEPSEA, Singapore; O. Nabangchang, EEPSEA, Thailand; J. Vause, DEFRA, United Kingdom; and H. Wittmer, Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research UFZ, Germany. It will highlight success stories, challenges, and best practices, and determine future research needs for the advancement of ecosystem services valuation.
*TEEB is a major international initiative on ‘The Economics of Ecosystem and Biodiversity’ — it ishosted by UNEP with financial support from the European Commission, Germany, the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Japan.
"Lessons from Modeling the Linkage between the Economy and the Environment in Southeast Asia and China"
EEPSEA will present this session on Day 3 under the Key Event theme ‘Transforming Our Way of Living” at the PUP Conference.It will be convened by Dr. AriefAnshory Yusuf, EEPSEA Senior Economist, and Prof. BudyResosudarmo, EEPSEA resource person.
We will present four EEPSEA-supported studies that used economy-wide modeling to analyze various aspects of development such as the impact of globalization on the environment and how environmental tax can reduce environmental damage without negatively affecting other development goals such as poverty reduction.
