
The Philippine study of EEPSEA’s cross-country research project on climate change adaptation made the news in the Philippines in the Philippine Star, November 3, 2011 issue (article). The article highlighted that 12 towns in Laguna had been selected as the study sites for the Philippine project, namely,Sta. Cruz (Laguna’s capital), Los Baños, Bay, Calauan, Liliw, Magdalena, Majayjay, Nagcarlan, Pagsanjan, Pila, Rizal, and Victoria. Laguna had been chosen thanks to the initiative of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization–Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEAMEO–SEARCA) based in Los Baños(http://beta.searca.org/searca/index.php/home). SEARCA conducted the first of a series of training coursesin May2011 for 30 Laguna Municipal planning officers and key officials on how to conduct vulnerability assessments and mapping as well as socio-economic analysis.
