EEPSEA provides research grants to carry out primary studies to generate environmental values and/or evaluate institutional and policy options for improved environment and natural resources management. There are situations, however, wherein policymakers will ask researchers to generate environmental values in a short period of time—based on information provided by studies done elsewhere. How can these values be transferred or used in the area of interest? What value adjustments must be done to ensure a better fit to local situations? What steps must be carried out to ensure that the values are interpreted correctly by the end users? These questions were answered in the four-day course offered in Manila on 17-20 March 2014. The course was facilitated by Dr. Luke Brander, an environmental economist who has carried out meta-analysis and value transfer for select ecosystem values in the region. Entitled Valuation, Meta-Analysis and Value Transfer for Ecosystem Services from Protected Areas, the course was attended by 25 participants from seven countries (Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam).
