EEPSEA Trains Researchers to Prepare News from Research

As part of EEPSEA’s two-pronged mandate to build capacity in environmental economics research and, at the same time, increase the influence of such research in natural resource management policymaking, a one-day news writing workshop was held on May 11, 2014 in Phuket, Thailand. It was attended by EEPSEA researchers who are about to complete their respective research studies.

The event aimed to equip the fourteen (14) researchers from China, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam with knowledge on how to develop news articles that highlight the relevance of their research findings. This is a skill that EEPSEA believes environmental economics researchers should develop in order to increase research influence in policymaking.

Mr. Henrilito Tacio, a Filipino science journalist, facilitated the workshop. He discussed the basic concepts of news writing, highlighting tips in popularizing research studies.
