Conducting in-country training courses is one of EEPSEA’s strategies in environmental economics capacity building. With Myanmar’s current efforts to advance their economic development in parallel with environmental conservation, now is the best time to come in and strengthen the country’s capacity in the economic analysis of environmental issues.
Hence, EEPSEA, in collaboration with Myanmar’s Co-operative University, organized a Short Course on Environmental Economics in Yangon on 6-10 October, 2014. Twenty-eight (28) researchers and lecturers from seven Myanmar universities participated in the course.
The five-day training course provided researchers with the needed knowledge and skills to conduct environmental economics research to address environmental issues in their country. An overview of the various environmental valuation tools and methods was also discussed.
Dr. Orapan Nabangchang, EEPSEA Deputy Director and Associate Professor at Sukhothai Thammatirat Open University in Thailand, and Dr. Asa Jose Sajise, EEPSEA Senior Economist and Senior Lecturer at the University of the Philippines Los Baños, facilitated the course.
